Chris Napoli Field Study

It is early in the morning and I am headed to Termini to meet up with my class to travel to Napoli. I don't know what to expect but I am excited. Upon arriving in Napoli I had mixed feelings because the train station seemingly deserted. Once we arrived in the city it was a different story. Napoli is beautiful and lively. From quaint neighborhoods to winding streets and endless stairs it was a sight to take in. We were fortunate enough that our professor gave us a local perspective of Napoli instead of a ordinary tourist experience. Our first stop was a glove factory where the owner gave us real insight into the time it takes to  make quality  gloves and how his business operates. It is not very often that someone will let strangers in and teach them about their trade. Later in the day we went to a castle with a view that proves a picture says more than words. With a view of the city and coastline it was a memorable experience that I will always remember. That night we walked along the coast which was very calming. For dinner that night I had feasted on some of the best tasting pizza I have ever had. The next day was even more interesting walking through the areas that were considered "worse" by non locals. As a tourist to Napoli it was nice to see real everyday life of actual locals. It didn't take long to observe the small living spaces and locals hanging from their windows gazing into the streets. It definitely is a different way of living than I am accustomed to. One of the best parts of the whole weekend was going to a local house that was used to support street artists. At the house we were cooked a delicious dinner. We devoured the meal that consisted of pasta with a great tasting meat sauce, meat ball style foods and salad along with bountiful amounts of bread. After eating more than I should have the house turned into a colorful artistic experience. All of the students and artists played instruments and danced. I can honestly say it was one of the most unique experience I have ever had. The hosts were so passionate and freindly that it made it well worth my time. My time in Napoli was not what I was expecting but never the less it was an amazing experience that I am very grateful that I was able to participate from.
